Lancaster III ED937. AJ-Z

Took off 2159 hrs Scampton and set course for the Eder Dam. Crippled by the detonation of its own weapon and while trying to make base was hit by light flak, crashing 0236 hrs at Netterden, 3 km E of Emmerich.

On the way back, flying again at treetop level, two aircraft were lost. The damaged Z-Zebra was caught by flak near Netterden

Neergeschoten door “HeimatFlak” in Emmerich!
7 man gesneuveld begraven te Düsseldorf(Nordfriedhof) en na de oorlog overgebracht naar het Reichswald Forrest War Cemetery bij Kleef.
Lancaster ED-778 crashte wel bij Netterden (zie bijlage), op 13 mei 1943!
5 man begraven in Gendringen.

Narrative:
After attacking the Mohne Dam on the Dams Raid,the aeroplane was shot down. It had probably also been damaged by the explosion caused by its bomb hitting the top of the dam parapet.S/L H.E.Maudslay, Sgt J.Marriot, F/O R.A.Urquhart, Sgt R.Cottham, P/O M.J.D.Fuller, F/O W.J.D.Tytherleigh and Sgt N.C.Burroughs all lost their lives.
